Munnar

Munnar is situated at an altitude of 1600 to 1800 metres above sea level. Munnar is the heartland of plantations. It is 139 kilometres away from Cochin. The famous cattle breeding centre Mattuppetty is very near to Munnar. Eravikulam National Park (Rajamalai) Kerala Forest Department administrates Eravikulam National Park. It is a UNESCO world heritage site. It is been found 26 species of mammals and NIlgiri Tahr is the surviving kind of 750+ individuals. It is spread over 97 square kilometre. Many types of different species is been found here and protected under the Government of Kerala.The hill will become blue once the flower Neelakurunji blooms once on 12 years. It is a mesmerising view which attracts many tourists in these seasons apart from the locals. Every year around 45 days the park is closed due to calving season. Anamudi is the highest peak in Western Ghat . Mattuppetty Dam It is a concrete gravity dam built in Munnar. This dam attracts wild animals and birds for water. Boating is available at Mattupetty dam.
